Visitor Information
Bower Ponds is a little bit of paradise, right in the middle of the City. Paddle boats, fishing, picnics and walking trails in the summer, ice skating and tobogganing in the winter. Bower Ponds features a playground overlooking the Red Deer River, a serenity garden and a natural amphitheatre with a covered stage. Also, the site of the beautiful, historic Cronquist House.
Heritage Ranch is a country-themed equestrian retreat. Patrons can enjoy trail and carriage rides in the summer and sleigh rides in the winter. Paved and gravel trails wind through the forest to the Red Deer River, providing a perfect locale for walking, biking, and cross-country skiing. Heritage Ranch also features playgrounds, a trout pond and a picnic shelter.
Gaetz Lakes Sanctuary is Alberta’s oldest federal migratory bird sanctuary, situated on 120 hectares of protected land within Red Deer city limits. A refuge for native plants, birds and animals. Hike five kilometres of trails on your own, join a group, or with one of the Centre’s naturalists. Borrow a set of binoculars, snowshoes or an activity kit to help bring your hike to life.
Kerry Wood Nature Centre and Historic Fort Normandeau provide fun, educational programs and workshops for all ages. The mission of the Centre and Fort is to engage with the natural environment and share our cultural heritage through interpretation and education. Kerry Wood Nature Centre and Fort Normandeau offer an ideal setting for special events or meetings.
McKenzie Trails Recreation Area is a natural oasis in Red Deer and part of the Waskasoo Park System. The area offers many outdoor opportunities and is a great place to have fun surrounded by nature. The area features a playground, picnic shelter, paved walking trails, year-round washroom facilities and a canoe launch with access to the Red Deer River.
Maskepetoon Park is an ecological gem – a stunning riverside park – tucked away in the west end of Red Deer. Take a stroll along paths and trails that wind through the forest and marshland. Maskepetoon Park features a 3.5-kilometre out-and-back trail ideal for walking, jogging and running. Dogs are also allowed on the trail but must remain on a leash.
Red Deer has more than 110 kilometres of soft and hard surface trails that traverse the Waskasoo Park System. Experience Red Deer’s unique park system that takes you from neighbourhood green spaces to scenic, intriguing pathways. Stretch your legs, walk your dog, ride your bike, fly a kite, take a family hike or just relax and take in all the natural, scenic splendour.

Come for a day of play and sports, visit the Art Gallery, Hall of Fame, Ice and Snow and Alberta Hockey Galleries, multiple exhibits, and Orest Korbutt Theater. Take a tour and experience the Museum! The Alberta Sports Hall of Fame is located on the QE2 outside Red Deer just along the North Side of the Highway.

Learn of the lives of pioneer farm families: working in the field, milking the family cow in the dairy barn, repairing a plough in the blacksmith shop, or baking bread in the summer kitchen.
